How To Build a Computer Part 1. (The Basics)

According to a study by Worldometer there were over 73 million computers sold in 2022 alone! I’d like to make this guide for everyone out there, who’s only just now getting into the world of personal computers. I’m certain such a quickly growing market must have a large proportion of beginners!

Learning how to build any type of computer, for the first time is usually quite a daunting task. No need to worry though, I’ve been there before and that's why I've decided to make a series of quick and simple walk-throughs of how you could easily figure out what to do! So, without further ado let’s get into it.

Firstly, I would like you familiarize all of you to the most basic and important components of a computer. For this blog post, I’ll be teaching you about the basics of a computer.

Let’s get familiar with some computer terms, that will be used in future guides.

PC: Personal Computer, self-explanatory, term used for computer.

GPU: Graphics Processing Unit, this is the part of the computer that process graphics, meaning that all the crisp gaming footage would be produced by this.

CPU: Central Processing Unit, this is the part of the computer that processes everything and is essentially the brain of the PC.

PSU: Power Supply Unit, this is the unit that provides power/electricity to all the PC’s components.

Motherboard: Circuit board where everything is plugged into.

Monitor: This is where your computer will display software.

RAM: Random Access Memory, this component stores short term data, helping it operate correctly.

HD: Hard Drive, this is your main storage component that will keep most of your files and games stored.

SSD: Solid State Drive, this component is like the HD, just usually it is much faster. This is where you’d preferably store games and files that you will use most often!
